Review: Abaca Boutique Resort, Mactan
This is a premium boutique resort tucked away in the North-East corner of Mactan island, away from the average tourist and yet perfectly close to Mactan International airport.
We took the biggest and most expensive suite on offer, called the Seaview pool villa, which was extremely spacious, about 125sqm, and were not in any way disappointed.
First of all, you get a personal butler service who’ll get you everything you need. Then there’s free flowing coffee all day, whichever way you want it. There’s no dearth of supplies, with a free mini bar full of snacks and beer and drinking water. I just love it when resorts actually show that they acknowledge a man’s need to drink.
Coming back to the room though: There’s a small private pool in the front yard, 2 big televisions, 2 air conditioners, a huge bathroom with a bath tub, 2 wash basins and a direct entry from the pool. The room can easily sleep 4 people.
The Cabanas by the main infinity pool outside have a nice view of the sea. You have to book them in advance if you wish to spend time in them, as there are not enough for everyone.
Next up: the restaurant: Full marks from me. They have a limited menu, but they (a) have more than perfected it, and (b) are very happy to go out of their way to make changes as per your wishes. Most definitely the best food in our entire Philippines trip.
